Description from the Official Flood Run website:

“Over the year’s, the Flood Run has grown and gone thru many changes as one of the oldest and larger runs in America. The original run went down Minnesota highway 61 to Winona to help sandbag during the 1965 floods.Through the years, many people avoided the traffic of Hastings MN. and Red Wing MN. by riding down Wisconsin 35. Now the run has grown to a massive number of motorcycles and to alleviate the congestion going into some of the towns, we are adding the original nostalgia run down the Minnesota side. It incorporates the whole Mississippi River Valley because after all, it floods on both sides of the river.

The Flood Run has always been a charity event. From throwing sandbags in 1965 to buying a Benefit Wristband to support a great cause! Proceeds benefit the kid’s at Gillette’s Children’s Hospital.

With the $10.00 Benefit Wristband you get a discount at every stop at any business listed down the Flood Run. Many Minnesota and Wisconsin businesses have jumped on board to help with some great discounts making your $10.00 Benefit Wristband worth hundreds of dollars if you hit every stop.

Our August trip took the Driftless Riders "around the world" - of Wisconsin, that is. From the Dells to Green Bay to Hurley, here's a few of our highlight & lowlights.

Highlight & Lowlights of Driftless Riders August Ride

Wisconsin Dells Bar

Day #1: Twin Cities to Dells: Headed out of Twin Cities on sunny Wednesday morning and wound our way down to Durand, Wisc and got lost on windy roads on the way to Independence and Whitehall, and a lot of other small towns…Ended up staying at the Dells…a good 300 mile day.

Costal Road along Lake Michigan

Day #2: Dells to Sturgeon Bay: Have to admit we didn’t find many good roads as we worked our way to Lake Michigan, or maybe we were just hungover…if anyone has good suggestions, let us know. We ended up popping out to the Lake around Sheboygan, and road all the way up to Sturgeon Bay…Once again, not great roads…we need suggestions, as the Driftless Riders were out of the Driftless Region.

Safari Motel

Day #3: Door County to Wabeno: Well, well, well…let’s just say the Driftless Riders were somewhat unimpressed with Door County, but we did happen to find a cool old lighthouse to climb. Ended up on a death march through Green Bay and into the Great Woods on northern Wisconsin and stumbled on a gem of a town that goes by the name of Wabeno. I can best some it up as a small town, with many bars, a motel by the name of the Safari, and pole shed party with dollar beers sponsored by the local EMS, illegal fireworks, and regrets for drinking Absinthe.

Kick ass road through the woods

Day #4: Wabeno to Hurley: If we didn’t defile ourselves enough in the small town of Wabeno, the granddaddy of them all lie ahead..that’s right, Little Vegas…you might know it has Hurley. If you don’t know what Hurley is, you shouldn’t be able to call yourself a ramblin man.

After a night out in Hurley, you’ll feel like this too…

Day #5: Hurley to Twin Cities: Licked the wounds, got the bikes up over 100 MPH on GG, and flew oursleves back home to the cruel reality of the year of our Lord of 2008.

Another wonderfully sloppy Dam Saloon bikini contest has come and gone and the Drifless Riders took in the action in our usual fashion. Here's a few highlights...

Curves on highway 60

Another wonderfully sloppy Dam Saloon bikini contest has come and gone and the Drifless Riders took in the action in our usual fashion.

We started off the day by getting drenched and abused by an isolated thunder storm, but once we broke through it was clear sailing for the rest of the day. Our route took us down through Zumbrota and east on the beautiful and twisty highway 60 (one of the best Minnesota biker roads out there).

Highway 60 pops out in Wabasha. From there we headed down hwy 61 to Minneska for a quick stop at Buck’s Bar. Crack a cold one and let a little rain move through, then on to the contest…..

Shake your tush on the catwalk

This years contest had all the accouterments: There was alot of sunburn mixed with alot of beer mixed with alot of sweat mixed with alot of cheering. Throw in some overflowing Biffie’s and a couple fights and you’re starting to get the picture.

The bikini contest turns into a bikini-less contest

Lets be sure not to overlook main event – the parade of topless sea-hags. As usual the main event did not dissappoint. This years contestants left any form of decency at home. They and strutted their stuff and gave the fans what they deserved and more.

The party’s winding down

Eventually everyone had seen enough, boats & bikes started shipping out, and those pesky drunken hicups set in. All in all it was another great Dam Saloon bikini contest. Time to head for the hills.

Scene from the top of a bluff somewhere in southwest Wisconsin

I’ve posted a few more photos on this message board. If you have any of your own, please post em.

See ya next year.

I'm not sure who originally wrote this, but I kept bumping into it on the information super highway, so I thought I'd share: The Ten Commandments of Harley Davidson:

I’m not sure who originally wrote this, but I kept bumping into it on the information super highway, so I thought I’d share.

The Commandments

The one true American-made motorcycle is the Harley-Davidson, and thou shalt put no other motorcycles before it.

Thou shalt not bow down and worship nor serve the god of chrome; for, lo, he is a false god and will not get thy butt home.

Honor thy authorized dealer and thy hog chapter officers, that thy days may be long and fruitful in the land of Harley.

Remember the weekend, and keep it open. for it is written, five days shalt thou labor, and for two days shalt thou ride thy Harley, drink beer, and fuck off.

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s Harley, nor her manservant, nor her maidservant, nor her ox, nor her cute little ass.

From the throne of thine Harley, thou shalt not stoop to wave at sinners who ride jap-crap, for jap-crap is known to be the handiwork of the devil.

Thou shalt not pass by nor turn away from thy brother Harley rider who is in mechanical distress.

Thou shalt not pose. verily, i say unto you, it is easier for a poser to pass his gold visa card through the eye of a needle than to enter into the true fellowship of Harley-Davidson heaven.

When riding thy Harley on the road of life, thou shalt not whine nor snivel, and thou shalt not suffer to ride alongside those who do.

Park not thy Harley in the darkness of thine garage, that it may collect dust for want of being often ridden, ride thy Harley with thy brethren, and rejoice in the spirit of the road.

As devoted as I am to my hog, I don’t really agree with all of these…. It’s a little to hardcore Harley. Since I’m no bike bigot, I propose a revised version:

My Commandments

Love thy motorcycle as thyself and put no other motorcycles before it.

Bow down and worship the god of safe riding; for, lo, he is powerful and will a get thy butt home to ride another day.

Honor thy companions and fellow riders, that thy days may be long and fruitful in the land of twisty roads.

Remember the weekend, and keep it open. for it is written, five days shalt thou labor, and for two days shalt thou ride, drink beer, and fuck off.

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s motorcycle, nor her manservant, nor her maidservant, nor her ox, nor her cute little ass.

From the throne of thine bike, thou shalt extend props to all other riders in the form of a wave – down low. All other gestures are known to be the handiwork of the devil.

Thou shalt not pass by nor turn away from thy brother rider who is in mechanical distress.

Thou shalt not pose. Verily, i say unto you, it is love of the ride that makes us bikers and allows us to enter into the true fellowship of highway heaven.

When riding the road of life, thou shalt not whine nor snivel, and thou shalt not suffer to ride alongside those who do.

Park not thy motorcycle in the darkness of thine garage, that it may collect dust for want of being often ridden. Ride with thy brethren, and rejoice in the spirit of the road.

Cheers

Let’s not forget the 11th commandment that the Driftless Riders recognize: Thou shalt not pass up offerings of cold beer, fresh doughnuts, corn on the cob, and/or full frontal nudity.

CHEERS!
